Functional Medicine Offers New Hope

When Traditional Medicine Makes You Feel Like Giving Up, Functional Medicine Offers New Hope

I know what it feels like to be told by a doctor, “There’s nothing wrong with you,” when your body’s insisting, “Oh, yes there is!” Not only does it make you question your sanity, it makes you feel like you have no choice but to live with whatever’s ailing you without any hope for relief. Thankfully, that’s not the case with functional medicine.

Unlike traditional medicine, which focuses on treating the symptoms, functional medicine identifies the source of the symptoms so that your body can receive the treatment it truly needs.

As a certified Functional Medicine Specialist, I look closely at your three core body systems—hormonal (adrenal & sex hormones), gastrointestinal (digestive tract), and detoxification (liver & waste elimination) systems. Why are these three systems so important? Because imbalances within these systems are quite often the cause of the host of symptoms that impact your quality of life, including:

  • Constant (or intermittent) fatigue
  • Depression
  • Weight gain
  • Memory loss
  • Irritable bowel
  • Joint pain
  • “Female problems” like mood swings and painful periods
  • Food sensitivities

Like a medical detective, I sift through your medical history in search of clues to uncover what’s behind your adverse health symptoms. I leave no stone unturned. I look at your past and present stress levels, the medications and supplements you take, your diet and exercise habits, how much or how little sleep you get, as well as what your body’s trying to communicate through your symptoms. From there, I have you undergo a set of thorough laboratory tests, which are specific to each body system.

With all of this information, I’m able to determine exactly what’s going on with each of your core body systems, where the imbalances are occurring, and what it is your body needs to restore its natural balance so that you can feel good again.

Whereas traditional medicine takes a “one-fits-all” approach in terms of treatment, functional medicine is patient-specific, meaning that no treatment plan is alike. Each is tailored to the individual and what their body needs to not only heal itself, but to stay healthy.

Many of my patients are amazed to learn that the symptoms they’ve suffered with for so long are the result of a system imbalance. And while restoring balance back to the body doesn’t happen overnight, they’re just as amazed with how quickly they’re able to feel good again when they begin their treatment plans.

So don’t give up hope. Get in touch with me and allow me to show you just how the best practices of functional medicine can restore vitality and good health back into your life.
